Communication in the 21st Century

In the 21st century communication is defined as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Google Plus. We also use the radio, television, online media, and newspapers to communicate many different things to the world. Today everyone communicates thorough texting and emailing. The communication of the 21st century has been reduced to abbreviated words which is what we see mostly in text messages. Granted these social media sites are great ways of keeping up with family members that live far away, but they do limit our ability to communicate on a more sophisticated level. In this century communication has become a major focal point as to how we convey our own personal thoughts to the world. Learning how to write has become more difficult because now you have to take more details into account. For instance, when writing an email to a boss and coworker compared to a friend. You have to know how to communicate as well as write to each of them because you wouldn’t want to write something this is professional when emailing a boos and coworker whereas a friend you can just express yourself. The same is true when it comes to writing to a friend on Facebook, MySpace, and Google Plus which is a whole other style of writing. In regards to texting we use abbreviations which has become a language of its own. When using email as a way to communicate people can take your style of writing and misinterpret the true meaning of what you are trying to convey to them in the email. Learning how to write is based upon knowing who your audience is so that you can write in a manner that is fitting for them. All of these things have really shaped how we communicate as well as how we have learned how to write in the 21st century.
